Lighting for a Restaurant Kitchen

This project had the specific brief to design lighting for the restaurant area of a kitchen.  With the main considerations being that the lighting needed to be easily cleaned, and to be able to withstand the atmosphere of a restaurant kitchen.

Robert went about this project considering that the lighting needed to have a relatively smooth outer form to enable the lighting to be cleaned.  Also to discourage dirt and grease from settling on the lighting.  While considering how to clean the lighting Robert decided it made sense to be able to lower or remove the lighting to be cleaned.  Therefore when the cleaning is taking place the dirt and cleaning products would not be spread around any hygienic surfaces underneath the lighting.  Robert decided to used a cable and hook mechanism to allow the lighting to be unplugged then unhooked, tand taken away to be cleaned.

The lighting outer shell is manufactured from extruded polycarbonate, with the end caps being injection moulded.  Robert had the idea that all the electrical components and lamp fittings could all be attached to the reflector.  With the reflector sliding out of the casing, this enables easy access to all electrical components for maintenance.  Making it simple and easy to change the tubes and starters.
